Field-Based Learning in Working Conservancies
You won't spend much time in a classroom. Most of your training happens on active reserves where wildlife isn't contained or predictable.
That means early mornings tracking fresh prints, afternoons learning how different herbivores respond to predator presence, and evenings around the fire discussing what you observed with guides who've been doing this for decades.

What the Training Year Looks Like
September - October 2025Orientation & Foundation Phase
Initial field introduction, safety training, basic species identification, and establishing daily routines. This phase focuses on building observation skills and understanding reserve ecosystems before advancing to more complex scenarios.
November 2025 - February 2026Core Skills Development
Intensive tracking practice, animal behavior studies, guided walks under supervision, and increasing responsibility in field situations. You'll start leading short sections of activities while receiving constant feedback from experienced mentors.
March - May 2026Advanced Application
Working with actual safari groups, managing client expectations, handling vehicle-based game viewing, and responding to challenging situations. This phase includes qualification assessments and practical examinations depending on your track.
June - August 2026Specialization & Placement
Final certifications, specialized skill refinement, portfolio development, and transition support for employment opportunities. Many participants secure positions during this period through connections built during training.
